I Have No Gift to Give You

Today is Mother's Day,
I have no gift to give to you,
But these words I have to say....

Thank you for always loving me,
No matter what I've done.
All I thought about was me,
and having lots of fun.

I never meant to hurt you.
You meant the world to me.
I want to make you proud,
be the best that I can be.

I lost myself somewhere down the road,
being haunted by my yesterdays,
became a very heavy load.

I should have gone to you.
We were always so very tight.
Instead, I disappointed you,
and all we did was fight.

You always tried to help me,
and do your very best.
It's time for me to help you,
and time for you to rest.

I want to go back to the way we were before,
I don't want to hurt you or fight anymore.

I love you so much Mom, you mean the world to me.
I have no gift to give you, just a new and better me!

I love you Mom... Happy Mother's Day is everyday!!!!

It is for my mom.... We had a fight....and I wrote that for her a long time ago. I hate fighting with her!

When I was teaching creative writing in high school, I always did it late in the year, not too long before Mother's Day. One of the mandatory assignments I gave each student was to compose a Mother's Day poem, which I would help them revise if they wished. Taking it home was on them, but most did, and the results were very positive. I imagine when you gave your mother this she had tears in her eyes. Nice work.
